Get Ready

To God's People At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

It is good to give thanks to the LORD.  This week I had the privilege of teaching some OMF missionaries a few Psalms, and the closing one was a call (Psalm 92) to GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD.  So often we forget all the good He has done for us and we lose sight of His desire to have us be a thankful people.  Stop right now, before you read anymore and spend some time THANKING YOUR LORD.  If you need help, reflect on the Gospel, read Psalm 92, or 100...and thank Him.  Maybe this week (and beyond) seek to be thankful 10 times for every time you complain.  If we are those who give thanks always, in all circumstances we will more and more become those who please the LORD.  If you struggle with this and find yourself to be a complainer, this week, STOP, reflect on the goodness of God and His gifts, and be thankful.  Be THANKFUL out loud, and share with others.  As we learn from the Exodus and book of Numbers, complaining is contagious and dangerous, so may God help remind us this week to use thanksgiving to chase that away!

Kick Off Sunday is coming.  Sticky Buns are enough to get me to come and be a part of this on September 16, 9:30 am...but even more, a chance to get together with God's people, invite our friends.  We want this Sunday to also display opportunities for you to get CONNECTED in our church family.  JOIN US!

Remember:  Tonight (Tuesday), Egypt report...7:00 - 8:00.  Join us and hear how God used our team and our prayers to minister effectively to people in Egypt.

Remember:  We take Discipleship very seriously at CBC, and one of the ways we want to effectively provide this growing opportunity is through our Sunday School Ministry.  This will start September 23, and we encourage people of all ages to join us in growing towards conformity to the IMAGE OF JESUS.  Our Children will be in classes where they grow to know and apply God's Word more effectively with great teachers.  Our youth have age and gender specific classes taught with the goal of helping our youth live authentic, alive lives for the glory of God.  Adults can join EXPLORE...please sign up, or a class on the top 10 issues facing Christianity in Canada.  Plan now to make this a part of your families habits of holiness.

Remember:  We are seeking to build a CULTURE OF EVANGELISM, which means that you are to ask God to help you to share your love for Jesus and the Gospel with those who He has strategically placed in your sphere of influence.  If we all love God enough to overflow in this way we will see our impact multiplied and POWERFUL!

Remember:  Pray for others.  Especially remember to pray for our missionaries.  Please continue to pray for Dan and Mary as they deal with an eviction notice. Decisions need to be in place by the end of the week whether they will remain in BC or move their online ministry to another province. God seems to have provided replacements for them in their ministries here in BC.  Please display our love for them through your prayers.

Sunday Is Coming:

Take the time to prepare so you gain maximum impact from the gathering of God's people:

  • Why is communion so important for us as a church?

We often say we are to REMEMBER, REPENT, RENEW and REJOICE...reflect on each of these before Sunday.  Try to have clear in your mind what Pastor Rob means by each, and meditate on them for your own life and growth.

  • How is communion dangerous?
  • How can we avoid this danger?
  • In what ways can we deepen our delight in this community celebration together as a church family?
  • How can you preach the Gospel to yourself every day?

Thankful for my salvation, family, and church family, THANKFUL for our GOD!
