Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

To God's Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

I love the sight of snow, even in the lower mainland.  What a reminder of God's forgiveness, and keeping our eyes fixed on Romans 8:1.  It does mean everything SLOWS down, even shuts down.  Schools and ministries take a break, and as they do, may we use this extra time we may have to focus on Jesus.

AWANA tonight (Tuesday, February 12) is cancelled.  Please take the time to lead your family into God's presence as you relax at home.  Enjoy your family and use this snow-time wisely :)

I love to read, and finished a great book on the Holy Spirit by Sinclair Ferguson as I prepare for our Romans series and chapter 8.  Was a rich time of worship, and realization that often we don't focus on God the Holy Spirit, or in our focus take our eyes off of Jesus.  It is so important that we allow God's self-revelation in Scripture to drive our thoughts and affections, and I loved this quote from another book on the Holy Spirit I just started, "I also hope to remind you what the true ministry of the Holy Spirit looks like.  It's not chaotic, flashy, and flamboyant (like a circus).  it's usually concealed and inconspicuous (the way fruit develops).  We cannot be reminded too often that the Holy Spirit's primary role is to exalt Christ, to elicit praise for Christ from His people."  May we get to know God more and more, and in the power of the Holy Spirit lift up the name of Jesus, and conform to Jesus image!

I'm reading a great book on Revival, so starting next week will share some of Tozer's reflections on what revival is, why it doesn't come, and how to pursue it individually and corporately!

It was a blessing to have Pastor Steve in church Sunday, and his challenge to pray along with Paul was rich.  Please help us become more and more a people who pray, and join us in doing so in the way that God's Word has revealed.  Prayer is the foundation of Cloverdale Baptist Church, and the stronger the foundation, the more powerful the building of people.  We are seeing people growing and coming to Jesus, and that is THRILLING, and we want more!  So, please join us in pursuing an all defining relationship with Jesus, and in praying along with God's Word for His people.  Take time to pray for your pastors, elders, deacons, staff, and friends!  WE NEED THEM (John 15:5)!

There have been a number of deaths lately in our church family, please be in prayer for those you know who are grieving loss, or struggling through this!

Missions Focus:  Please continue to pray for Daniel and Jessica Fenske!  Pray for their leadership teams, and that They will see much fruit in their efforts to see Gospel ministry flourish in Poland!  Please pray for Mile One Mission in Newfoundland as well!  Pastor Steve has shared how few followers of Jesus there are there, and is seeking through our prayers and support to see many come to know Jesus there and many healthy churches in this precious province.

Sunday Is Coming:

We are BACK TO ROMANS!

I have missed our time here very much and excited to get back to our study.  PICK UP YOUR BOOK in the foyer, take notes, and seek to have discussion throughout the week with God's people.  We produce these study guides because we long to see God's Word not just preached, but lived, that our services would be a part of the Disciple Making command of Jesus as we live it out in every day life.  We want you to use this tool to grow, and help those around you grow!

Text:  Romans 5:12-21
Title:  Identity:  Adam Or Jesus

Please take the time to read the entire chapter of Romans 5.  It is so important to place God's Word in context, and Romans 5 is one of the richest Gospel loudspeakers in the Bible.

  • Why is understanding our identity in Adam key to grasping our identity in Jesus?
  • How can you have a healthy self identity?
  • The Bible loves to define Christians as IN CHRIST, what does this mean?
  • How can you confidently live in this reality?

Loving the privilege of helping people love Jesus more, and live for His glory through preaching and discipleship,

Pastor Rob
