Learning From History

To God's Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

Hawaii became the 50th state...1959

Much more significant...on this day in 1732,  At three in the morning, Count von Zinzendorf lays his hands on the heads of Leonard Dober and David Nitschmann, commending them to God as the first Moravian missionaries.  Moravians willingness to sacrifice comfort and their very lives for the purpose of getting the message of the Gospel into the world and their passion for missions in history, continues to be a great model of carrying out our mandate.  They were the first large scale missions movement of the modern era.  Take time today to pray for one of our missionaries, and perhaps send them an encouraging note letting them know you are joining them in their struggle by praying for them...these men and women were willing to offer their health, wealth, and families so that others could know Jesus.  May we also learn from this to choose to be a healthy part of our CULTURE OF EVANGELISM.

In Canadian Christian history, on this day in 1866, we discover the Birth of Civilla Durfee Martin in Jordan, Nova Scotia, Canada. She will be a school teacher before marrying Walter Martin with whom she will produce a number of Gospel songs, including these popular numbers: “The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power, ” “God Will Take Care of You, ” and “His Eye Is on the Sparrow.”.  We are a singing people when we have been redeemed, and it is a joy to remember not only our heritage of great songs and the meaning they have for us as we have journeyed through life taking refuge in Him, it also reminds us to, as Psalms says, "sing a new song to the LORD".  May we rejoice in our Psalms heritage, in history, and now, overwhelmed by our Saviours love and SING!  I can still hear my mothers voice singing, His Eye Is On The Sparrow, and from that can still feel the peace that comes from the reality that, "I know He cares for you and me".

In Cloverdale Baptist Church history, today, in 2018 this blog was sent out, and God used it to remind us of our passion to live our lives in His presence for His glory (at least I hope He does :)).  Today God has good works, prepared in advance for us to do, and as we walk in them, this day will be one that will be reflected on in eternity for God uses weak people like us to accomplish His plan!

Remember:  Sunday School is starting.  This year we have an amazing opportunity for CHILDREN of all ages to grow and continue to learn about Jesus in their lives.  Parents, use this as an opportunity to help you in your desire to raise Bible saturated children!  This is more important than sports, or school...so take advantage of this aid to your goal to raise godly children.  Adults, we have something special for you this year called EXPLORE.  This is a 5-6 week commitment to growing together.  More on this soon.  We will also have a catch all class upstairs that focuses on THE TOP 10 ISSUES FACING THE CANADIAN CHURCH IN 2018-2019.

Remember:  JOIN A GROWTH GROUP THIS YEAR!  We need one another or we will find ourselves hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.  For you to be a healthy follower of Jesus you need to connect in a healthy way with other Christians!

Remember:  Sign up for Bocce tournament if you are a boomer or a youth.  Information can be found in the church foyer on Sunday mornings, and we are looking forward to a highly competitive (okay not really) game of Bocce, any rules or conflict over who is really closer will be RULED on by Bob Austin and or Lee Wiebe (with help from Pastor Thomas and Dawson).

Remember:  Sticky Buns to help us gather and engage in being a sticky church.  Join us on September 16 at 9:30 to learn about what ministries have planned for the coming year.  All are welcome, so join us and enjoy the food, fellowship and invitation to further connection.  Feel free to invite your friends, and if you see people you don't know, to display to them why our reputation is continuing to grow as a place that displays the love of Jesus!

Remember:  Christianity is relational.  Our goal in all of these programs starting up is to deepen our walk with God, and connect in our passion for God with one another.  Join us in our pursuit of God so that we can more and more effectively glorify His name together!  Join us tonight for our last elder led PRAYER MEETING of the summer, as we seek to know God more, and display this in our seeking of Him together.

Sunday Is Coming:

Title:  Lessons On The Journey:  Learning To Walk With God
Text:  Genesis 5

  • Why is it so important that we remember that all of life is to be lived in light of our relationship with God?
  • Hebrews 11:5 tells us that Enoch pleased God, why?
  • How can we be those who also please God?

As we look at the life of this amazing man, may God use it to show us how to live our lives in a way that PLEASES HIM.  May we be those who hear from the KING of kings, "well done my good and faithful servant".

Walking with God, and you as God's people at CBC, for His glory, in His strength...

Pastor Rob
