Serving Jesus Together

To God’s Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

It is good to be a part of the family of God!  This weekend we have a Joint Servant Team (JST) gathering, where elders, deacons and staff take time to pray for and pursue together God’s vision for this local church.

The local church is God’s plan A, and there is no plan b….I love that we have people in our church who are seeking to be fully devoted followers of Jesus, and make the serving of Jesus bride an overflow of first love devotion to Him.

We will be spending time on being ALL IN on Friday night, looking at 2 Corinthians 5:11-21 and Luke 14:28-33.  We would deeply appreciate your prayers for our passion as a JST, as well as the vision God would have us to see as we seek to give our lives for His church.

Saturday we will focus on seeking to steward the calling God has given us, especially in the areas of discipleship, community and prayer, and you will hear more about the answers to your prayers for us as we build out this strategy with a pursuit of excellence with you that will glorify God!  We will also seek to be in prayer ourselves as we know, more is caught than taught & unless the Lord builds the house, the labourers labour in vain!

I am thankful for our elders, deacons and staff, and privileged with them to seek to engage your hearts and gifts in God’s work with them!

Sunday Is Coming:

It is COMMUNION Sunday, and a delight to celebrate this special time with you!  This is a time of remembering, repenting, renewing and rejoicing…and if we keep our eyes on Jesus, the greatest unifier of our church family!

Please prepare your hearts and minds for this time of passionate celebration as we seek to be a family that has our hearts, minds and lives united IN CHRIST and partnering in the Gospel…Communion is one of the great symbols in relationship that feeds this passion!  If we truly have a first love devotion to Jesus we will be an unstoppable force in our family and world!  May our God use this celebration to unite our hearts IN CHRIST!

Sermon for Sunday

Title:  Passionate To Protect God's People:

Text:  Colossians 2:1-7

We will be spending two weeks in this great text…take the time to read it (encourage you to read all of Colossians repeatedly to keep what God is showing us in context), and seek to apply it to your life.

  • Why is Paul struggling in these verses?
  • What is he struggling for?
  • What are you toiling for in your life?
  • How does this text help to align your heart with God’s in terms of your own efforts for excellence in the local church for the glory of Jesus?

Privileged to toil for your perfection in Christ,

Pastor Rob

Growth Group Notes:  Colossians 2:1-7 Part 1

Thank you for joining us in seeking to help God’s people connect with Him, and to connect with His family at Cloverdale Baptist Church.  Growth Groups are the heart of our strategy to connect with God and one another in unity for His glory…so THANK YOU for your part in pursuing this with us.  Please continue to keep these relationships strong and intentionally pursue the Christian life in these communities, especially with our New Year’s goal of increased community.

Text:  Colossians 2:1-7

Title:   Passionate to Protect The Pathway

As you begin take the time to reflect on Colossians 1, and the high view of Jesus that then is to be the foundation and fellowship of everything else that goes on in this book.

  • – What were the highlights of Colossians 1 for you?
  • – What are areas of your life that you need to adjust because of what Colossians 1 states?

Read the text:  Colossians 2:1-7

As you reflect on your life, can you remember some things that were distracting to you, and took away from your desire to have Jesus supreme in everything, and kept your eyes from being fixated on Him?

Why do you think that Paul uses struggle language again in verse 2?

What is he struggling for?  Why do you think this defines his toiling?

How do you think that he was struggling (remember he is in jail)?

What does it mean to be encouraged in heart?

Why is that our hearts being knit together in love in a local church is so important?

How can we do this?

  • What would this kind of struggling look like in your life right now?

Why is unity so important for those in the local church?

  • How can we get this as a local church filled with the blessing of diversity?

What does having assurance in Christ mean?

Why is this so important?

As you look at your life, what causes you “struggling”?

Compare that with what Paul struggled with, and ask how you can align more with what Paul struggled with then what you currently are struggling with.

How can you make sure that Jesus is supreme in your life, and as an overflow of that, in what you seek to work towards?

Prayer:

  • Start praising Jesus for who He is, using Colossians 1 as a guide for this.
  • Pray that you would be an encourager to others in our church family, and that we would have a unity of heart and passion!

Pray that we would know Him as He has revealed Himself to us and this would change how we live as we seek to be driven and defined by our relationship with Him.

Pray for our search committee in their pursuit of a Discipleship/care pastor.

Encourage your group to come to our church corporate prayer night on March 3.
