Learning to Live for Jesus

To God’s Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

Thank you for your prayers for our Joint Servant Team (elders and deacons) retreat last Friday and Saturday.  We continue to covet your prayers in our pursuit of God’s will for this family.  It is truly and honour to serve you, and we need God's strength to lead you in the way God desires!

We individually and corporately as a team want to be compelled by the Gospel (Jesus love).  We want to be those who have counted the cost and invest our time, treasures and talents in Gospel ministry!  And we want to be as a team entrusted to serve Jesus bride, committed to excellence!  We know that the local church is Jesus plan A, and there is no plan b, so we as those called to serve you and lead you, want to do so with the excellence and strategic intentionality that this call to serve Jesus demands.  Please keep praying for us, and being willing to engage in growth and ministry as a part of this precious family!  We also want to be a church that has a cultureof dependence as we reach out with the Gospel and seek to see people discipled for God’s glory!

Who is your ONE?  The Bible teaches that we are a part of God’s strategy to reach people that He would like to experience His love.  That is an amazing responsibility and privilege, and one that we should take the time to think more on.  Who is it that Jesus has placed in your sphere of influence that He wants you to love, to share the Gospel, to encourage?

If each of us seeks to walk in the good works He has prepared in advance for us to do, we will be a much more effective family at living on mission in God’s will.  So, will you consider today who God has placed in your sphere of influence to show how great he is?  WHO IS YOUR ONE?

If you need to be equipped in how to share your faith, let us know, and we would love to help you in this!

Privileged to serve Jesus by serving you,

Pastor Rob

Sunday Is Coming:

Title:  Walk His Way

Text:  Colossians 2:1-7 Part 2

Take the time to read all of Colossians!  It is well worth the 15 minutes.

Our memory work last month was Colossians 2:6-7, meditate on these two verses as you prepare your hearts for Sunday:

  • What does it mean to receive Christ Jesus as LORD?
  • What does it mean to walk His way for you right now?
  • What does it look like to be rooted and established in Him?
  • Why is strengthened faith so important to following Him in everyday life?
  • Why do you think that thankfulness is so important to God?
  • How can you ABOUND IN THANKSGIVING?

Growth Group Notes:  Colossians 2:1-7 Part 2

Thank you for joining us in seeking to help God’s people connect with Him, and to connect with His family at Cloverdale Baptist Church.  Growth Groups are the heart of our strategy to connect with God and one another in unity for His glory…so THANK YOU for your part in pursuing this with us.  Please continue to keep these relationships strong and intentionally pursue the Christian life in these communities, especially with our New Year’s goal of increased community.

Text:  Colossians 2:1-7

Title:   Walk His Way

  • What did you put the greatest effort into this last week?  Think in terms of time thinking about or energy exerted to pursue?
  • How does Colossians 1-2:7 help us to see where we should be putting our focus and force of effort?
  • Read the text: 2:1-7…focus on verses 6-7
  • What are things that can cause you to be distracted from walking the way that Jesus wants you to walk?
  • What does it mean to, “receive Christ Jesus as LORD?”
  • How does this shape your life?
  • How does His Lordship show in your life right now?

Pastor Rob stated that this text calls for a loyalty to our LORD and His family as seen in the local church?

  • – What do you think this means?
  • – How does this show in your life?
  • – How can you be a part of helping us as a church to live this way?
    • o Individually?
    • o As a growth group?
  • What does it mean to be rooted in Christ?
  • If walking means living, or as you go about your every day life, how are you currently, “walking IN HIM?”
  • How is this relational and really life changing?
  • Why is the command to be, “abounding in thanksgiving”, so important in this text?
  • What steps can you take so that you are known as someone who is obeying this command?
  • What are you currently thankful for?
  • Interact with Pastor Rob’s implications:
  1. Walk His way:
  2. Check Your Roots:
  • How can you be saturated in the book of Colossians, and learn to savor and serve Jesus in the way that it is calling us to?

Prayer:

  • Keep praising Jesus for who He is, using Colossians 1 as a guide for this.
  • Make, ABOUNDING IN THANKSGIVING a central part of this prayer!

Pray that we would walk His way, in the midst of so many distractions and demonic attacks.

Pray for our search committee in their pursuit of a Discipleship/care pastor.
