Are You Eating Properly?

To God’s Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

Summer is fast approaching, and as ministries start to move toward the summer break, let us use this extra time we will have to work on our relationships…with God and one another.

Take the time to invite someone over, to have a coffee, to rejoice together in God’s goodness…

If you have an extra room, (or better, basement suite) we are looking for one for a Pastoral Intern, who we intend to have with us from September – April.  Housing is so expensive in the lower mainland so we are hoping that we can provide a room, so if you are going away for a significant period of time and don’t mind inviting a pastoral intern to live in your home, or if you have an extra room or suite for a very reasonable price, we would love to hear from you! Take the time also to reflect on the culture we are trying to build as a church family, and the steps you can take to help us to get there…

We are seeking to build a CULTURE as a church family, where who we are produces the ministry we want.  We need programs to facilitate this, however, more important than any of our programs is our passion to be who Jesus wants us to be.

WHO WE ARE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT WE DO:

So, what is the culture we want to have as followers of Jesus at CBC, and what can you do to help us to get there?

Our passion in terms of culture development is:  Discipleship, Love, Evangelism, Prayer, and an ever growing first love relationship with Jesus that defines everything about us! We need a Foundation of the GOSPEL…that we never leave.  A Gospel orientation that drives and dominates our lives! The place we start from and holds us firm has to be this first love devotion to Jesus, and we must never move on from here.

Before we get into the specifics of the culture we believe God wants for us, the second foundation we must have is WORD SATURATION. I believe that the importance of this foundation is increasing in the midst of the current world setting we are in.  Many are sacrificing essential Christian doctrine, and others are placing secondary issues as primary…so we must ensure we are letting the Word of Christ dwell in us richly. We long to be a people of the WORD, who are passionate about what God is, and we know this through His Word.  It is sufficient for all who are His throughout time, and relevant to us now!

So how do we make sure we are biblical and avoid the terror of accommodation or legalism? We must not only understand the importance of God’s Word, we must take the steps to fill our minds and hearts with it…to develop a biblical worldview that impacts how we thing, feel and live. We must read, memorize, meditate, listen to biblical preaching and teaching and stay loyal to God through this passion.

It is not easy to take these steps, in fact…with all of the distractions that life brings perhaps the hardest part of following Jesus…so, if you want to help us to develop the kind of culture God wants,   you must have the Gospel as your foundation, and stay oriented, and you must discipline your life to be WORD SATURATED.

  • How much time did you spend in your Bible last week?
  • Did you listen to the sermon with your Bible open and pen in hand to ensure what you are learning is from God and for God?
  • Did you memorize the verse of the month with the church last month?
  • Are you memorizing more than that?
  • What do you meditate on when your mind is coasting?
  • Are you seeking to apply what you learn to your life in a specific and passionate way?
  • Do you love God more this month than last, because of your interaction with His revelation?

Psalm 1…is so rich…and shows us how to be faithful and fruitful in our walk with God...meditate on His Word day and night! If we are traditional, or cultural we will lose our intimacy with Jesus, and if we lose our intimacy with Jesus we will lose our impact for Him!

So, make your choice today to become more intimate with the almighty by becoming more saturated with His revelation…What steps will you take in the coming week to make sure you are growing in your WORD SATURATION?

  •  Share those with others that we might together grow in this and avoid the dangerous ditches that the demonic would love us to flounder in.

Seeking a God honouring culture with you for God's glory!

A fellow follower of God and His Word,

Pastor Rob

Sunday Is Coming:

I am going to be away for a few weeks. Please pray for those who are preaching to our family, that God would prepare our hearts to hear from Him, and prepare them to, "speak as if they are speaking the very words of God".

Covet your prayers as we are on a holiday with Lori's parents, and as we seek a time of rest and rejuvination!
