“Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.” Isa. 12:5–6 (ESV)
The Worship and Music Ministry at Cloverdale Baptist Church exists to facilitate the biblically-centred engagement between God and God’s Covenant People in our corporate gatherings.
As we see in Isaiah 12 above, we believe that when we gather, God is present, for he is the one who has called us to come together to worship in his presence (Heb. 10:25). As we also read above, God’s instruction is to gratefully respond to his saving deeds through Christ, by lifting our voices together in songs of praise, and in so doing, build one another up, as Paul instructed in Col. 3:16. Music plays a central role, along with other acts of worship, including Scripture reading, prayer, preaching, and observing the ordinances of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper. These are done in community, so that we also experience fellowship as the early believers did (Acts 2:42). All of this is effectively part of our whole life lived out as worship as a further response to God’s grace (Rom. 12:1).
We see involvement in this area of ministry as an important way that we can use the abilities God has given us as part of our own discipleship process (serving others), that we may fulfill Paul’s vision in Eph. 4:16, “... when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”
Moreover, we value giving God our best for the sake of his glory (Gen. 4), and because his is worthy of it. Consequently, we value the development of our gifts through intentional times of rehearsal and practice. Our goal is to work together to graciously help one another grow in our abilities.
