Blue Monday

To God's Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

Blue Monday has come and gone with only a little notice.  Supposedly January 20 (third Monday of January) is the most depressing day of the year.  I am not sure of the science of this but it is a good reminder that many of us struggle through the dark days of winter, and could use the encouragement of God's people.  So, if you struggle with being a little down in January, talk to someone, share how you feel, and in community do your best to trust in God and live life in His presence where there is fullness of joy. If you don't struggle in January, (well I suppose even if you do) seek to send an encouragement card, make a phone call, give a chocolate hug, and be a blessing.  Far too often we focus on ourselves and forget that those around us might be struggling through some sadness, or darkness, so in light of Blue Monday, be a Blessing!  Look for people to encourage and seek to have people leave your presence closer to God and more joyful.

Monday was also MLK day in south of the border, and another great reminder to us that of the dignity of human life, and that all people are made in God's image and as such should be treated with dignity and love.  I know outside of Halifax (just learned that this year) our struggles with racism are different than those south of the border, but we still have them.  Take the time to evaluate your own heart and mind and make sure you are a part of God's plan to love, leaving behind any worldly concept of devaluing race or gender or age.

Romans Books:  Our Romans books will be out very soon, and it is our goal that you would use these books to help you apply God's Word to your life, as well as to encourage those around you to do the same.  One of the values we have as a church is to grow in community and you can do this with us if you get a book, take notes and talk about it.  This book is also coming with a 31 day journey through Romans 8, and we would love for every person in our congregation to take this 31 day journey and to talk about it with at least two other people each day.  The suggested donation cost is $5, if you can afford more, feel free to donate to cover someone else's book.  They will be available in soft copy on our website and from Amazon for $7.40.  Most Growth Groups are using this book to grow, so another encouragement for you to join a Growth Group, and take advantage of opportunities to love God and live in obedience to His Word in community.

Reminder Of Our Women's Breakfast.  Saturday, join other women in fellowship and full devotion.  This begins at 9:00 am.

We are seeking to grow our impact through prayer, so encourage you to consider joining a Growth Group, where prayer is a priority, coming to the elder led prayer meetings, or joining my partners in prayer.  Please join us in this passion to be a church that PRAYS, for only as we seek God's face and the fullness of relationship and power that come from that will we truly find success His way for His glory.

Sunday Is Coming:

We have the privilege this Sunday of having Jack Eggar speaking.  He has a heart for God, and His church.  Besides publishing a few books, and being president of one of the most impactful children's ministry in history for a number of years, he has now started a new mission organization (Global Children's Network) with Paul Weme's help, and is worth listening to.  This new mission is impacting thousands around the world, and this is a man who I have grown to love and work with in this global passion for reaching and discipling people for God's glory.

Questions for review:

  • What is the mission of the church?
  • How can we help in our own lives and ministry to make sure that CBC remains a church that succeeds in God's purpose for us?

Looking forward to a great Sunday,

Your servant, because I am HIS,

Pastor Rob
