The Church Is Essential and Delightful

To God's Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

We have had a great start to the year!  Thank you for joining us for amazing cinnamon buns, fellowship, and ministry opportunities.

Mike Ettie won the ministry candy jar guess, his guess was 105, and there was 106.  We had others close, but this was the closest.  CONGRATS!  As you work off your Cinnamon bun, please find a place to serve and be served in this coming year!

As each part does its work, we will more and more become the church that Jesus wants us to be.  It is a delight to belong to the family of God, and to be able to obey all of the ONE ANOTHERS in the Bible together.  Thank you for being a church family that is unified, and seeking God’s glory together.  Thank you for all of the encouragement and support you have given me, and our elders and deacons during this time.  Your faith and love are worth praising God for, THANK YOU!

As we settle into the new school year, please continue to make prayer a priority in your life.  It is as we pray that the hand of God is moved to bring us where He wills for His glory.  Pray for teachers, students and parents as the journey continues in this world, but not OF IT!

Our priorities for this coming year are, delighting together in God, depending on Him together, disciplined pursuit of holiness, and active intentional discipleship.  The most important aspect of a walk with God is our love for Him and His person.  An intimate relationship of delight.  May we encourage you to know Him, to find rest in that relationship, and to truly find your delight in who He is and what He has done for you personally.  If we all are those who are delighting ourselves in the LORD, we will be an amazing church, driven by our first love devotion to God, and our intimacy with Him.  Gospel impact always is an overflow of delighting in God together.  DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart, and the desires of your heart will delight Him!

We will be having a PRAYER SERVICE the first Sunday evening of every month, and our first one is on October 3.  Please join us at this service for a time of praise, testimony and most importantly prayer.  This service will focus on THANKSGIVING, and how we can be thankful always…and then together we will invest time in prayer.

October 3 is also our Newcomers Luncheon.  If you have joined the church over the last year, please sign up and join us for a wonderful lunch after the service.  This is not only a time of refreshment, but also an opportunity for us to share with you our delight in serving God’s family, and for you to ask any questions you might have of us.  We would love to have you join us, and together discover God’s will for where you can serve and be served by God’s people here.

Sunday School for ALL AGES starts this coming week, at 9:00-10:00.  Our adult class will be in the windows room (246 by the youth room), and focused on knowing and applying the SERMON ON THE MOUNT.  We really believe that teaching God’s Word should be a priority for Jesus church at CBC, and that discipleship is almost always an overflow of our understanding and application of God’s Word.  There is also Sunday School for all ages where we seek to impact lives with the Word of God.  Join us for this!  Your time is needed for your growing in the treasuring of God and His Word!

Sunday Is Coming:

Series:  Church Is Essential:

Title:  A Gospel Vision For The Local Church:  Walk This Way
Text:  Ephesians 4:1-7

  • How can we make sure our view of Church is from God, not culture?
  • How you walk shows who you are!  What does your walk show about what you believe about God, and what you believe about church?
  • What do you think it means to walk worthy of your calling?
  • Why do you think that God gives us this overwhelmingly high charge?
What does Paul mean when he calls himself a prisoner of the LORD?
  • How do verses 3-7 show us what Paul meant by a worthy walk?
  • How does our unity with Jesus, lead to a unity with one another?

It is a joy to belong to God’s family at CBC with you, and CHURCH IS ESSENTIAL!

Pastor Rob

Extra:

We want to include the Growth Group Notes from last Sunday's text so that you can work on applying God's Word in community.  Whether you are in a Growth Group or not, we would suggest that you work through these with others, and seek to apply God's Word to your life.

Growth Group Notes:  Message September 12, 2019:

Series:  The Church Is Essential:  Sermon #1

Sermon Title:  The Value Of The Local Church According To Jesus

Text:  Matthew 16:13-20

What comes into your mind when you hear the word, “church”?

What is a biblical definition of church?

  • Reformation doctrine included: Preaching of the Word, Membership (discipline), and proper administration of the ordinances, (some added biblical leadership to this, elders and deacons).

Why is it important to define it biblically, especially in our modern context?

Why is our view of church so important?

Why do you think that church is under attack from within and without?  Can you name some ways you think that the church is being attacked?

How does knowing Jesus is the Master of the church, as well as the One who bought her help us to value the church?

What does it mean that He will build His church?

With Jesus as the builder, and His promise that the gates of hell will not prevail, how does this build confidence for you in the local church?

What is Jesus mission for the church?

  • Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Galatians 4:19; Ephesians 4:11-16; Colossians 1:28-29

How can you be a part of this mission with your local church?

How is His building of the church tied to His vision for the church?

How can we be a part of defending Jesus church against:

  • Attacks from our flesh/others flesh?
  • Demonic attack?
  • Worldly/traditional attacks?

How can you value the church and help her to accomplish the mission that Jesus has given to her?

How can you serve/love the church Jesus has called you to be a part of?

Where do you think the world's confusion is on what the church is?

Where do you see this seep into the church?

Why is it important to realize that the church is not tied to a building in the NT, especially as we see the world moving away from valuing the church and biblical beliefs?

Spend time together praying for the church, and her leaders, that we would stay on mission, unified around the mind of Christ and filled with love for Him and one another.
