To God's Loved Ones @ Cloverdale Baptist Church:
I praise God for so many servants in our church family! As we see ministries kick off and people's lives impacted through our love and teaching, it is exciting to see so many willing to give sacrificially of their time to God and His family here at CBC. Thank you! Please continue to serve, and if you are not serving, find a place that you can use your gifts to bless others! Ask not what your church can do for you, but what you can do for your church...or something like that!
There is much going on, so want to remind you...
Growth Groups are starting. We would love for most of our people to be in growth groups, and invite you to participate in a growth group this year. You can sign up to take part at the welcome desk and we will do our very best to plug in all who want to grow closer with a group of people. As we grow bigger, it is important we also grow smaller, and your participation smaller groups will help you to feel connected and express love more effectively to others.
Sunday School is starting this Sunday at 9:10, and that is for people of all ages. It is our desire to have a strong Sunday School ministry as a church so that we can grow in the knowledge of God and be more effective and showing how great He is with our lives and lips. There are three adult options: Discipleship 101; which will take sign up and commitment. We are limiting this class to 18, so if you would like to participate in this please let me or Chad know. Another option is, Biblical Truth In A Worldly Culture, taught by Brian Nelson. The third option is, Victory In Jesus, a study of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians & Colossians, with Dan Gibson and Mike McLoud teaching. All three will be held in the upper education wing, so join us at 9:10, bring a coffee and your Bible and come and grow with us! There is still room for you, and the deeper we grow, the more impact it will have on our lives as we do this right!
Fellowship Time: We are going to have coffee on, before and after the service in the Fellowship Hall. Please grab a coffee, and look for someone you don't know, or haven't seen for a little while and connect. We believe that this time is valuable and if we use properly can expand and deepen our love for one another as a church, which is what we want to be known for! Join us in this pursuit!
Youth Group has started; AWANA is going strong, Agape ESL is active; and this list could go on and on. Join in, pray, and help us through your life and lips succeed in our pursuit of excellence in service for the Glory of our God.
Men's Retreat: October 2-3...a great opportunity to join us in our pursuit of holiness, especially in terms of moral purity. Plan on coming! Sexual temptation is one of the great worldly invasions of the church, and this conference will help us to be equipped from a Biblical perspective to fight for purity with the Gospel as our foundation!
Membership Class: Sunday October 4, 2-4. Sign up is at the information booth, and we ask that you pick up a membership manual and pre-read it and have questions ready. If you have any questions on this, please talk to Dan Radke.
Baptism Service: We will be having another baptism service on October 18...if you have not been baptized as a believer please contact one of your pastors, and we would joyfully help you in the process of obedience of Jesus in this way.
In November, we have the privilege of having one of the world experts on the reformation and on preaching coming to our church on behalf of Sola Scriptura. Steven Lawson is someone that has written extensively, and preaches around the world. You can sign up with Sola Scriptura, or if you would like a discount because you are a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church, you can come to this event that we are hosting for $20. Sign up will be at the information desk, and payment required when you sign up. November 7 should be a great day for our church family, come and be blessed by this event, preacher, and God's Word. Information for this event can be found on Sola Scriptura's website. He will also be preaching here on November 8, so invite your friends for this incredible opportunity.
That is a lot of information, please review it all one more time and make notes on your calendar's!
PRAYER: There is much to pray for, as we continue to be a church that moves forward on our knees. Please pray that Pastor Les and Dee Dee would sell their home in Salmon Arm, and that the transition to ministry here would be fantastic!
Continue to pray for our ministries as they continue to seek to glorify God.
This week I was reading a book called MISSION DRIFT, and it was a great reminder to me that we as God's people need to stay on mission together. This is not always easy as life can cloud out what is most important!
We view our mission as helping others Love Jesus and live HTML lives (Holy, Truth Filled, Missional, Loving) as an overflow of that relationship.
The key to our success is to be a people who LOVE GOD! Who obey the great command...Mark 12:28-31. As each of us pursues this all encompassing love of God, together we will be a church that is on mission. Please prayerfully ask God to search your heart and to renew your devotion to Jesus, so that we can accomplish what God wants us to accomplish together.
Sunday Is Coming:
Text: Mark 9:30-41
Title: Learning To Live In Humility
As you meditate on this text to get your heart ready to hear and obey the text being preached on this Sunday, here are some helpful questions.
Is it okay to want to be great as a Christian, or as a church?
How does Jesus being a suffering servant help us to understand what pursuing greatness looks like?
Why do you think that the disciples missed this?
Why do you think that we sometimes miss this?
If followers of Jesus follow Jesus, what does that mean in light of this passage?
Why do you think that Jesus chose children as the model for us to learn from?
If you pursued greatness in Jesus way, what changes would you have to make to your current life?
Have a great week, and may our God grant us fruit that lasts as we live our lives for Him!
Humbly,
Pastor Rob
