Prayer & Pursuit

Cloverdale Baptist Church Family:

I am excited to be a part of the family of God, and to have the opportunity to serve Him here with you at Cloverdale Baptist Church.  What a privilege to be a part of the plan of God, and to see our lives used to change eternity!  We all should spend a lot of time thanking our LORD not only for our salvation, but also the privilege of service!

Revive My Heart:

I am praying for revival, and read recently a quote by A.W. Tozer, "to desire revival....and at the same time to neglect prayer and devotion is to wish one way and walk another"  I would like you to join me in desiring for a revival of our own hearts and church even as we pursue it.  That we would wish and walk in the same direction.  This means a renewed first love pursuit of our God, as well as a commitment to personal and corporate prayer.  A friend has awakened in me a dream of a Canada where everyone will be faced with the Jesus of the Bible and have to decide what they want to do with Him, 'where Jesus words and His works are so pervasively felt that everyone will talk about them".  I long to see our people here at CBC, leading the way, alive in the Spirit, conformed to the Son, and glorifying the Father!

We will be having a week of prayer in early January, as well as some other prayer events to call our church family to more corporate prayer, and as we do that, please also hear from us a call to personal prayer.  Please be in prayer this week for your own heart and life, and our church family.  If you run out of things to pray for, fire me an email, and I have some excellent resources that could help!  One of our staff key requests right now is that Pastor Les and DeeDee's house in Salmon Arm would sell.  Please join us in seeking God's best in that situation!

Christmas is coming...

I am starting to work on our Christmas Series, Knowing Jesus, and am loving the opportunity to meditate on who He is!  Seeing glimpses of His glory helps me understand how Paul could say, "Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."  As we start to buy gifts, and think about decorations (usually happens right after ALL SAINTS DAY), may we also begin to meditate on the greatness of Jesus.  Just began a book that has warmed my heart called, Knowing Christ, by Mark Jones, and if what I read so far will carry on through the book, well worth your purchase and read this Christmas season.

Sunday Is Coming:

We have the amazing privilege of having Steven Lawson in church preaching this weekend and on Sunday morning.  Encourage you to come and bring friends.  This is one of the premier preachers in our generation, and one that Pastor Thomas always felt was the best when we went to conferences where he was speaking.  It is exciting to have this opportunity to hear God's Word exposited together by a man of this caliber.

Text:  1 Corinthians 15:58

Read the context of 1 Corinthians 15

In what ways do you need to keep going in your walk with God and service of Him?

How does this passage help to motivate you to keep on keeping on for the glory of Jesus?

Excited about a great week!
