A.L.I.V.E.

To God's Beloved @ Cloverdale Baptist Church:

This is an exciting week, with both a Seniors Retreat, and a Mens Retreat.  It is my prayer and hope that both of these will move our people (and all people who are there) closer to Jesus and one another.  Covet your prayers, as I have the privilege of preaching at both, and long for the Spirit's filling and power, so that lives are encouraged, and challenged.

Last week, we looked at the acrostic, A.L.I.V.E., and saw that the starting place for Christian growth is being full dedicated to God, or being one who is ALL OUT FOR GOD.

Today we want to look at the L...

LONGING TO KNOW GOD'S WORD

God has revealed Himself and His works to us in His Word.  This means we have the privilege and the responsibility to, "let the Word of Christ dwell in us richly (Colossians 3:16)".  This means making the effort to study God's Word, to memorize God's Word, and to take every opportunity to let God's Word shape our thinking (Romans 12:1-2).  The Bible is essential for spiritual growth, in fact it is the way we keep ourselves from sin (Psalm 119:11), and devote ourselves to God (Deuteronomy 17:18-20).

One of the main reasons we are not as mature as we should be is that we are not spending the time we should be in the Word of God.  May I encourage you to spend significant time in God's Word and let it shape you.  If we want to be people God looks on with favour, we must know His Word and tremble at it (Isaiah 66:2).

This summer commit yourself to a steady reading plan, to taking notes during the sermon and discussing with others, to growing in your relationship with God by meditating on His Word, and being sure to seek to obey it (Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:2).

Soccer Camp is rapidly approaching, and we are trying to get 2000 cookies...WE NEED MORE!  27 days to go, so please contact the interns, highpowersoccerampinternscbc@gmail.com.  We have 52 volunteers, and we need 86, so looking for a few more to step and engage!  Praise God for so many servants!

We long to be a church that prays.  That is why we have elder led prayer meetings during the year on Tuesday mornings, it is also why we are calling our church to prayer on Tuesday nights during the summer, starting on July 5.  We want to be a church that is fully devoted to God and bears much fruit, and so we need to actively depend on God so that His power is at work in us and through us.  Please join us in prayer on Tuesday nights as we seek God, and His power to accomplish His work for His glory!  I am also planning on building a prayer team for me personally, and if this is something you would be willing to commit yourself to weekly prayer for me, please send me a quick email, and I will give your more information on what being a part of this team will look like.

Spurgeon declared, "The more we pray, the more we shall want to pray.  The more we pray, the more we can pray.  The more we pray, the more we shall pray.  He who prays little will pray less, but he who prays much will pray more.  And he who prays more, will desire to pray more abundantly."  SO...today, choose to pray more!

Sunday Is Coming, please take the time to prepare your hearts and minds to know God more intimately and follow Him more fully...

Title:  The Cross & The Christian

Why do you think the CROSS is central to our worshipping God in an acceptable way?

What is worship?

As you meditate on these verses weep in thankfulness as you see what Jesus did for you.

Why do you think there were three hours of darkness?

Why is the cross the only way of reconciliation with God?

How should we respond to Jesus?

Have a wonderful week, as you meditate on the cross, of which Paul said, if you have to boast, it is the only thing to boast in  (Galatians 6:14)
