Let Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord

To God’s Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

This week in history…Rome Collapsed, August 24, 410.  This was a GREAT tragedy in the ancient world.  In fact many decided this was a failure of Christianity itself, and many in Rome actually blamed the Christians for the fall of this great empire.

Studying history is always perspectival, and a famous leader in the church wrote what has become a classic explaining that the true home for the Christian is not on earth but in heaven in response to this confusion as the pagans raided Rome.  The way we learn to live for God’s glory here, is to realize that heaven is real and our home!  A couple of friends have shared with me recently that we in some ways have lost sight of this reality as a Christian culture, and I agree.  We need a reminder that our home is in heaven.

Even as we deal with the rampant immorality and fake news on all sides of our current Canadian landscape, we can have hope, not necessarily in the restoration of safety for babies, or the sacredness of marriage, or the morality that God’s Word defines, or justice, or…. OUR HOPE CITIZENSHIP IS IN HEAVEN.  We are living through a pandemic, and regardless of what you believe about it, and our governments response, REMEMBER, our focus is Jesus and eternity, so take heart, live in hope, and remember TOMORROW for the follower of Jesus is SECURE!

Lately there has been a lot on the news of politics, whether that be the conservative vote on a new leader, democrats or republicans affirming presidential nominations, or the poisoning of those who oppose the government in Russia.  Our hope is NOT POLITICS, it is JESUS!  Our home is not this world, it is in heaven, and as such we live for her.  The collapse of Rome has many things to teach us, but primarily it teaches us that there is a difference between, “the city of God and the city of man”.

In the midst of the turmoil all around us, live in light of eternity and remember that God is Sovereign, and can be trusted, and His power is not limited by people, places, or powers.

It has been a joy to see so many gathering again with us on Sunday Mornings.  Not yet as we long for, but great to see many of you!

Sunday is Coming:

Title:  The Priority Of Praise
Text:  Psalm 150

We are going to change the shape of our service on Sunday as we study the last chapter of the book of Psalms.  The sermon will come very near the front of the service, and then we will PRAISE GOD as a response to His Word.

As you read this book, and as it ends in this chapter, it is an overwhelmed overflow of PRAISE.

We sometimes struggle as we try to live lives of praise, and yet it is where God’s Word drives us!

As you pre-read this chapter of Scripture, let it drive your heart to song, your feet to dance, and your life to holiness and mission.  Psalms is not only a book of great comfort, it enflames the heart and overflows through our mouths in PRAISE!  WE LONG TO BE A PEOPLE OF PRAISE!

Looking forward to another week of service with you as partners in the Gospel,

Pastor Rob
