To God's Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:
The Church Is Essential!
What does that even mean? For some it meant leaving the church because of inconvenience or disagreements over non-essentials. For others it has meant the universal church, and a desire to live for God, but not with other followers of God that are close, and perhaps broken. Heard of two in the community of Cloverdale who think they are the only ones that have it right, so meet together Sunday's at Timmies to have fellowship, and be the church. What does it mean that the church is essential?
We have been in the de-churching movement in North America for a number of years now, and the impact on God's people is visible as they struggle with worldly narratives and patterns. We are losing our spiritual vitality and cultural impact, and the main reason is we have lost our loyalty to Jesus bride, and a biblical understanding of our role to beautify her.
When we say the CHURCH IS ESSENTIAL, we mean by that the local church that God has called us to be a servant of her, where together we can honour Him, and bring Him glory. Where we can celebrate the ordinances, worship our King, grow together as His Word is faithfully preached, use our gifts, and LOVE ONE ANOTHER (and all the other one another's).
It is not easy to live with others in this fallen world, but in the power of the Holy Spirit we not only can be healthy partners in the Gospel in local churches, we must be! That is why our Saturday gathering with TGC-BC is so important as we seek to hear from God, not culture, on the value of the church, and what it means to be a part of God's family and committed to His bride.
Join us, as we set apart this day to accomplish God's purposes for God's glory, and learn together the importance of the local church, and the impact we can have together if we obey God's Word fully as followers of Jesus!
Summer holidays are almost upon us, and as life slows down a little, may I encourage you to use that extra time for deepening your walk with God! How you say?
1. Read The Bible More: Pick a book and get to know it well. Maybe read Colossians every day, or find another book...and grow to be comfortable in it so you can conform to it. Memorize Colossians 3 with us, and if you are like me and struggle memorizing, just read it over and over again and think on it.
2. Pray more: Develop a habit of going to God first thing in the morning, and at the end of the day, and as much as possible, continually throughout. I have written a prayer this morning that I want to guide and guard my heart throughout these months and am planning on following its pattern every morning. Try to call someone from our family once a week and pray with them, and join our summer prayer meetings. If you don't already, pray for your family and with your family every day.
3. Read More...find a few good books and read them this summer. Encourage you to work your way through some books that will impact your worldview, and your living on mission in the world, but not of the world.
Maybe Dever's book on evangelism, or Welch's book on when people are big and God is small...or so many other good ones.
If you are struggling, pick a great author and read, if you need advice on a book check with your Growth Group leader, a pastor or elder, and read. Take notes, seek to interact with the book, and share what you are reading with someone else!
A great start is, https://www.amazon.ca/dp/
4. Take one minute a day to pray for one person in your sphere of influence that does not know Jesus...for opportunities to share with them, and that God's Spirit would be at work in them! If each of us reaches someone in our community for Christ this summer, we will double our servants for next September...and that would be amazing!
If we all do these four small things, potentially, this summer can be life changing, and we can grow through the quiet months and get ready for an amazing new year of partnering in the Gospel.
Sunday Is Coming:
Title: The End Is Near: Above All...LOVE ONE ANOTHER
Text: 1 Peter 4:1-11
- Read the text
- Why is it so important for us to love one another as we see the end approaching?
- How can you obey this command to love one another above all this week?
- Why do you think it is important that, love covers a multitude of sins?
- How can we as a church family be known for our love for one another?
- What is your part in helping us to get there?
As the END approaches, live according to the WILL OF GOD, and fight the flesh, the world and the devil by conforming your mind, will and emotions to the reality of God and His revealed will in the power of the Spirit.
Privileged to be your servant because I am His,
Pastor Rob
