How to Receive God's Gift

Consider what Jesus has done for you when He died on the cross. Consider the gift that He is offering you and the price that He paid on your behalf. Jesus suffered the worst death imaginable while the onlookers scoffed and spat at Him. He gave His very blood as a sacrifice for you. He has paid your entire sin debt. Every lie you ever told, every lustful thought you have ever had, every time you used the name of Jesus as if it were a dirty cuss word, every nasty sin you have ever committed - Jesus paid the price so you wouldn't have to. This is the gift that God has made available to you.

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace"

Ephesians 1:7 (ESV)

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)

So what are you to do?

Believe what God has done for you (that He has paid your sin debt in full) and turn from a life of living for yourself to that of living for Him. Repent.

Repentance is a deep change of mind and heart to turn away from all the known sin in your life and to turn completely and whole heartedly to God. Hold nothing back - give yourself completely to God.

Jesus tells us in Mark 1:15 that we are to repent and to believe the good news! Later, in Acts chapter 3, Peter boldly tells the Jews to repent.

"Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus."

Acts 3:19-20 (ESV)

Believing alone is not enough. If you had to dive out of the back of an airplane, believing in a parachute is not enough to save you - you need to put it on! Put on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Here is how you can receive Christ's gift of eternal life:

Using your own words, talk to God. Confess your sins to Him, name as many as you can think of. Ask him to forgive you of your sins, and then tell Him that you are repenting and turning you life completely over to Him. Tell you that you believe in Him and recognize Him as being absolute Lord of your life.

"because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."

Romans 10:9-10 (ESV)

"For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

Romans 10:13 (ESV)

Receiving God's gift of eternal life is believing what Christ has done on the cross for you and turning your life completely around (repenting) to live your life for Him making Him the Lord of your life.
