To God's Ambassadors At CBC:
Thanksgiving as a date has come and gone (I love turkey dinner), but obedience to the command of God to be thankful always has not. This week, as an overflow of our focus, make sure to be THANKFUL to those you come in contact with! Thankfulness will drive out all sorts of sins that we can commit with our mouth, and replace the empty space with joy and obedience. BE THANKFUL, we have so much to be thankful for, and if you need a place to start, start with what Jesus has done for you!
We live in strange times. The National Post recently ran an article on a Pastor named, Greta Vosper, she is with the UCC, and she said in an interview that she has stopped using the word, "God", in her ministry because it was a barrier to to participation in the church. It would be comical if it was in a novel, it is heartbreaking because it is a real story (article can be found at, http://news.nationalpost.com/
A good Ambassador represents Jesus as an image bearer (Ephesians 5:1-2; Galatians 4:19), and shares HIS MESSAGE! As times change, so can how we share the Gospel, but we must be sure never to adjust its content to make it more acceptable. At Cloverdale Baptist Church, we will keep using God, and what He has revealed in His Word even when it is a barrier to participation in the church, because if we lose that, we lose everything that matters!
This is one of the reasons that preaching the whole counsel of God through expository preaching is so important to us! This Sunday we will begin to work our way through Galatians, as we seek to understand how God wants us to apply the Gospel to our lives and church in this generation.
PRAYER: Please pray for those impacted by hurricane Matthew. Especially pray for those impacted in Haiti, and for those from our family who used to live there. The devastation is overwhelming and it is our prayer that God would bring healing and hope and use this tragedy to draw people to Himself.
Reminders: AGM: October 26, 7:00...Babysitting will be provided so that people of all ages can seek God's will with us!
New Members Class: If you are interested in joining us as a member at CBC, and accomplishing God's purpose together we are meeting on October 30, at 2:00 pm
Sola Scriptura: A world class church historian will be discussing the role Martin Luther had in the Reformation. Worth your time if you have it, Friday and Saturday. Information on registering can be found on our website.
Choir: The Ukrainian Choir will be in town, and at our church on Saturday night at 7:00. A wonderful free concert to enjoy the excellence they have in performing. A free will offering will be taken.
Sunday Is Coming:
How we prepare to receive from God's Word, will directly impact how we grow. Spend the time to review what is coming, and prayerfully getting ready to feed on God's Word on Sunday.
Title: Galatians G.O.A.L.
Text: Galatians 1:1-5
Take the time this week to read through the book of Galatians prayerfully. There is so much here that we can apply in terms of living out the Gospel Oriented Life.
How is it helpful to know who Paul is as we study this text?
As we learn who Galatians was written to, why is it important to remember that God's Spirit inspired it for us?
As you have read through the book, what do you think that Paul's purpose is in writing it? How can you start to work through what this book could mean in terms of living a Spirit filled life?
Have a great week!
