Canada Day

To God's Beloved At Cloverdale Baptist Church:

Canada Day is upon us.  I love the country that we live in, and usually enjoy spending July 1 with our family in a part in Cloverdale with a lot of other people collecting Canada pins and wishing our great nation a HAPPY BIRTHDAY.  This year it will be different, as celebrations are muted with our current pandemic situation.  That is sad for me, as this is a tradition we enjoy...but also a reminder of the frailty of nations and traditions, and the importance of keeping our focus eternal.  So this year, as you enjoy a day off, and perhaps sing the National Anthem (check out all of the verses, they are really good), pray for Canada, and the impact we as a church can have on her through prayer, love, and sharing the good news with people here!  Happy Canada Day!  (The office will be closed July 1)

When Can We Meet Again?  As you know this is the question burning on all of our hearts, and there is a lot of misinformation out there.  Please know we as your elders long for this as well, and are working very hard to get there as soon as possible with safety and the PHO in mind.  They have informed us directly that Phase 3 is 50 people maximum in a building, and we are trying to figure out a way in this to still have physical gatherings.  So prayer meetings, etc. are starting to gather, and we are longing for and praying for the day that these restrictions will be removed!  Right now with the restrictions in place it is only those who are serving that are allowed to gather (with their families) on Sunday mornings.  Please pray for wisdom, unity, and the chance to gather again the way we long for as God's people soon!

Gwen Thomas went to be with Jesus last Wednesday.  Please pray for her family as they grieve the service was held on Saturday, and they will post the video on a website for all who loved her.  We have asked permission to post it on CBC platforms as well, and plan on doing this with their permission when it becomes available.  She was a precious follower of Jesus and part of CBC for most of her life!

Communion:  We are celebrating Communion again this Sunday, please make sure that you are prepared SPIRITUALLY (most important) and physically (have bread and grape juice ready).  This is a precious gift from God to His church family, and we are thankful that we can continue to enjoy the spiritual intimacy with Jesus and one another that this corporate celebration brings, even as our gathering is online, we can experience the blessing of corporate worship and experience His grace and love.  One of our concerns is that we stay connected to Jesus and the local church during this time, so please make an effort to help us to accomplish this!

Growing Together Over The Summer:

There are five KEYSTONE HABITS that if we practice will not only deepen our walk with God, but impact everything else about us.

1.  Preach:  The Gospel to ourselves every day.  This is an intentional pursuit of being Gospel Centred and experiencing His forgiveness and full devotion to Him through the experience of His love

2.  Pursue:  Word Saturation.  God's Word is how we learn who He is and what He has done for us, and how we check everything else.  It is the pathway to conformity to His image and community with others who love Him!  It is central to growing!

3.  Prayer:  This is simply communicating with God, we listen by reading His Word, we respond by crying out to Him.  We are called to always pray and not give up, to cast our anxieties on Him, to engage in spiritual warfare with prayer as our key foundation...

The problem with most of us is not a lack of desire to pray, but a lack of prayer.  So, this summer, live actively in the presence of God (pray continually) and set aside time for entering His presence for a prolonged intimate time.  Start in praise and thanksgiving (rejoice in who He is and what He has done for us), take the time to confess your sins, and rejoice in His forgiveness and pour out your requests to Him.  Prayer should be like breathing for us, and prolonged prayer an essential discipline in our life.  Remember it is all about relationship, and take the time to PRAY.  God has chosen to use our prayers to change situations, and accomplish salvation...SO PRAY!  Pray for me, our church family, and anything and everything else God lays on your heart.

The book that transformed my prayer life, and that I recommend to all who will, "take and read", is a book by D.A. Carson, called Spiritual Reformation.  All of our elders read this when they join the board as we see one of our primary roles as prayer, and I believe that the only way forward in God's power MUST include a PRAYING CHURCH.

Plan to join us at our corporate prayer meetings as well, this summer as ELDERS lead us in prayer on Wednesday nights starting on July 8.

Growth Groups:  It seems it might be hard to do a kick off this year, given our pandemic realities, but we would love every person who calls CBC home to be a part of a healthy small group.  If you currently are not a part of a small group, but would like to be, please let us know (info@cloverdalebaptist.ca) and we will make sure you have a small community of followers of Jesus to bless and be blessed by.  More on this soon, but perhaps second to the preaching of God's Word, these groups are ESSENTIAL during this time!

Sunday Is Coming:

We are spending summer in the Psalms, and I hope that you rejoice with me at the way that they show us how to understand our feelings and bring them in conformity with the purposes of God.

Text:  Psalm 8

Title:  The King Is Majestic

Psalm 8 is one of the hymns of praise in the Psalter that focuses on Jesus.

It presents Him as glorious, and then takes the time to compare His glory to us.

Why do you think humans matter?

How does this show itself in this Psalm?

How can we grow to value ourselves and others through God's eyes?

What are steps you can take to WORSHIP THE KING?

Loving and submitting to the King with you,

Pastor Rob
